VIDEO: Ranked choice voting in Richmond Webinar
On Saturday, 2/21, Andrew Yang, Senator Joe Manchin, and Rep. Justin Amash talked to the Richmond Forum audience about "the two party problem" and how it's hindering our democracy. Among the solutions proposed was...Ranked Choice Voting!
To build on that conversation and to talk more about RCV in Virginia (and Richmond, specifically), we hosted a webinar. We did a deeper dive into how ranked choice voting works and why we think it's a good idea, plus grounded the discussion in the specifics of the City by talking about Richmond's voting rights history, the potential for election innovation, and how RCV can be part of the bigger movement to increase citizen engagement.
Participants:
Liz White - Executive Director, UpVote Virginia
The Hon. Katherine Jordan - member, Richmond City Council, representing the 2nd District
Dr. Matthew Slaats - Senior Civic Innovation Manager, Richmond City
Tamaya Dennard - Programs and Partnerships Manager, Represent Women
Jerome Legions, Chair of the Richmond City Democratic Committee, Former President of the Richmond Crusade for Voters
