Happy Happy Birthday to Us!

Can you believe it's been two years since we launched UpVote Virginia?

On August 16, 2022, we were (virtually) joined by Congressman Don Beyer (D), Governor George Allen (R), and a panel of experts who shared their excitement about our formation and their enthusiasm about Ranked Choice Voting. And we hit the ground running! 

Since then, we have worked with a statewide coalition of organizations and individuals to help pass RCV in Arlington County (twice!), educated voters to ensure a smooth implementation there, given dozens of presentations about RCV, and allowed voters to rank candy, cookies, Thanksgiving side dishes, and VP candidates!

We're making progress in localities across the state, gaining allies in the state legislature, and - most importantly - raising the profile of this crucial nonpartisan reform. You might say we've been working to upvote the idea of RCV. 

There's so much to do as we enter our third year! With everything going on nationally with partisan politics and campaigns, it's easy for voters to forget about the kind of foundational, structural work we do. But no matter who wins the elections in November, we will still be polarized, and our elections will still not be built to thoroughly reflect the preferences of voters.
